Fluid-Structure Interaction: Rotating disc and plate

This example shows the simulation of a rotating plate and a rotating disc in a tube.

Due to the high fluid velocity the flow is modelled:

  • Fully compressible

  • Turbulent (RANS)

The first example shows a 2D simulation of a plate, which separates two chambers each one of them having different pressure. The plate is opened suddenly and the pressure compensation takes place. The particle tracking visualizes the high speed flow (Ma 0.7) during the period of pressure compensation. Due to the high acceleration of the plate, inertial forces also cause stresses in the plate.

In the 3D model a disc rotates in a tube (turbulent, fully compressible flow). Problems with large rotations can be realized in 3D analysis as well.
