Fluid-Structure Interaction: Damper, 3D modeling

This example shows the 3d transient analysis of the damper. Again the fluid exchange between the chambers takes place via an orifice in the piston. Very large displacement of the piston can be realized even in 3d modeling.

Figure 1 shows the model.  The model consists of a structural part (piston, spring and contact region) and the fluid region.  The fluid exchange takes place via an orifice in the piston.

The animation in the next figure shows the velocities in the fluid chamber and stresses in the piston.

This analyses allows to separate influencing parameters on this system like damping due to wall friction and damping caused by the fluid velocity.
