Fluid-Structure Interaction: Vibration absorber with friction contact

A further example for fluid structure interactions is the vibration absorber, e.g.  shock absorber. Damping is caused here by the viscosity of the fluid and the wall friction of moveable parts in the absorber.

In numerical FSI analysis, these kinds of problems are difficult to solve. Here higher order time integrations methods are need to avoid biasing the solution by numerical damping. The simulation allows to separate the complex mechanism and to estimate the effect of influencing parameters on the damping.
